All other days and times may vary according to the housing unit. Video visits at the facility will be 20 minutes in length. With video visitation, you can visit remotely using a computer with a web camera connected to the Internet. The Vista Detention Facility now offers Home User video visitation for most housing units. Vista Detention Facility (VDF) - Visitation Participants can expect significant involvement from Correctional Counselors, VA Social Workers, and Sheriff’s sworn staff in the day to day operation of the module and programs to facilitate participant goals. Veterans are assigned to the module under certain custody conditions and on a voluntary basis. The veteran’s module comes with privileges and incentives not available in standard housing units and therefore, compliance with facility rules and regulations is required. Participants are required to participate in all assessments and all programming. Participants are expected to demonstrate positive actions and work proactively toward their own success. The Veteran Moving Forward Program promotes an environment of responsibility and accountability. The Veterans Moving Forward Program is dedicated to assisting our incarcerated veterans by providing them the necessary in-custody programs, services and community resources to reduce their rate of recidivism. Department of Veterans Affairs, the Vista Detention Facility opened the first ever Veteran’s Module in the San Diego jail system on November 1, 2013. Services are provided by physicians, psychiatrists, dentists, nurses, and clinical social workers. VDF provides a wide range of medical and psychiatric services, including infectious disease control, X-ray and dental care. Our special handling inmate population consists of those with medical challenges, those under psychiatric care, an administrative segregation unit, as well as defendants facing high-publicity trials. The population at VDF consists primarily of inmates awaiting court proceedings for North County cases. All buildings with the exception of the Law Library are physically connected. Other buildings include the North County Superior Courts, Vista Sheriff’s Station, and the North County Law Library. VDF is just one building in the massive North County Regional Center Complex (NCRC). The current BSCC rated capacity is 825 beds. In 1989, VDF expanded an additional 576 beds, bringing its total to 886. ![]() ![]() Opened in 1978, VDF sits on several acres of developed land which is owned and operated by the County of San Diego.
